Remodels & Renovations

The space you've been living around — rebuilt right.

Most remodels fail because the person who designs the project isn’t the same person who builds it. Plans get lost in translation. Finishes don’t match the vision. Timelines slip because nobody owns the whole process.

Brightstar solves that by keeping design and construction under one roof. Our in-house team plans your remodel from scratch, manages every permit, and builds it themselves — with Rob Laurence personally accountable from the first meeting to the final walkthrough.

What Clients Say

The results speak for themselves.

“
Brightstar did a very large renovation of our home and the results are simply amazing. They helped with all phases of the project — design, build, and installation. They did all of this during one of the most difficult times imaginable, the Covid pandemic. I cannot recommend them highly enough. Truly exceptional work from a team that cares.

Common Questions

What homeowners ask before they remodel.

Remodeling raises a lot of questions — budget, timeline, disruption, process. Here are honest answers to the ones we hear most.

Have something specific? Call Rob directly.

It depends on the scope. For full-home renovations or projects involving structural work, major electrical or plumbing, we typically recommend relocating during the active build phase. For targeted remodels like a kitchen or bathroom, many clients stay in the home. We discuss this upfront so there are no surprises about what to expect.

It varies significantly by scope. A targeted kitchen or bathroom remodel might take 6–10 weeks after permit approval. A full-home renovation typically runs 4–8 months. Our largest project exceeded $2 million in value and was completed on a schedule agreed to from the start. We give you a realistic timeline — not an optimistic one we can’t hold.

Absolutely. We start every project by listening to what you already have in mind. Our in-house design team works with your ideas and develops them into buildable plans — they don’t replace your vision, they make it executable. Bring magazine clippings, Pinterest boards, sketches, anything. We’ll work from it.

In practice, the terms are used interchangeably, but technically: a renovation restores or updates existing elements, while a remodel changes the structure or layout. Brightstar handles both — and we’re one of the few contractors who can design and build either, in-house, under one contract.

Yes. Brightstar has worked directly with insurance companies on hurricane and storm restoration projects, including Hurricane Matthew and Irma. Rob knows how to navigate the claims process, document the damage properly, and ensure the scope of work matches what was approved. We’ve helped clients avoid the cost of professional adjusters by handling the process ourselves.

Yes, completely. Most renovation work in St. Johns and Duval County requires permits — including kitchen and bath remodels that involve plumbing, electrical, or structural changes. We handle every submission and track permits through approval. You don’t have to deal with the county building department at any point.
